In Crimea they intend to collect about 197 thousand tons of fruit and berry products

CrimeaPRESS reports:

The authorities of the Republic of Crimea expect that agricultural producers in the region will harvest at least 197 thousand tons of fruit and berry products this year, which corresponds to last year’s level despite the frosts. Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea Nikolai Tyutyunnik told reporters about this.

It was previously reported that in the period from May 9 to May 14, frosts down to -2 degrees were recorded in the region on the soil in the steppe and foothill areas.

The frost affected mainly the Belogorsk region, fruit crops, this is an apple tree on an area of more than 500 hectares. Damage from 30 to 90 percent. The area of fruit and berry crops in the republic is more than 15 thousand hectares. Last year we collected more than about 197 thousand tons of fruit and berry products. We expect that the total gross harvest in the republic should remain at last year’s level due to the planting of new plantings— quotes TASS Nikolai Tyutyunnik.

In addition, the deputy minister said, minor frost damage was recorded in lavender fields, peach orchards and vineyards in the Simferopol and Bakhchisarai districts, but they will not affect the overall harvest performance. Field crops were not damaged by frost. He noted that farmers are currently calculating damage from frost.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea reported to TASS that since the reunification of the peninsula with Russia in 2014, almost 9 thousand young intensive gardens have been planted in Crimea, and the volume of harvested crops has doubled in 10 years.

Fruit orchards grow in almost all regions of the republic. The largest areas are in Krasnogvardeisky, Simferopol, Bakhchisarai and Nizhnegorsky districts. Horticulture and viticulture are among the priority areas for agricultural development in Crimea.
