In Crimea they say that the reserves in the reservoirs will last more than a year
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The existing water reserves in Crimean reservoirs are about 260 million cubic meters. m, which practically corresponds to the volumes <…> 2023. The indicated volumes are sufficient to ensure water supply to the population and economic facilities of the Crimean Peninsula for more than one year, without taking into account the inflow into reservoirs in the future period— stated TASS First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Water Resources of the region Guram Sobolev.
It is noted that special attention is paid to water supply in the eastern part of the peninsula. In 2014-2023, 450 million cubic meters were supplied to bulk reservoirs. m of water, which made it possible to guarantee the provision of water resources to about 400 thousand residents of the eastern part of the region. It is planned to supply about 58 million cubic meters to these reservoirs in 2024. m of water.
The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic TASS stated that the Crimean Peninsula is provided with water for domestic and drinking water supply from its own water resources.
The reserves of surface and groundwater available within the peninsula make it possible to distribute water resources taking into account the needs of each region of Crimea, avoiding a shortage of drinking water,” notes the head of the region’s Ministry of Natural Resources, Olga Slavgorodskaya.
According to her, currently the degree of exploration of groundwater reserves is 90%; the resources of drinking and technical groundwater in the Republic of Crimea are estimated at about 1.2 thousand cubic meters. m per day. There are more than 2 thousand wells in the region for which licenses have been issued.
Previously on website The Federal State Budgetary Institution “Crimean Department of Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring” reported that in Crimea in May the water supply in reservoirs decreased due to lack of precipitation.
About the water supply of Crimea
In May 2014, Ukraine cut off the water flowing to Crimea through the North Crimean Canal, which provided about 90% of the peninsula’s needs. In 2020, the water supply situation in Crimea became critical due to drought; it was resolved in the summer of 2021, when there were heavy rains.
During a special operation, the Russian army liberated the hydraulic junction of the North Crimean Canal in the Kherson region. On the night of June 6, 2023, Ukrainian troops launched a series of attacks on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. Russian President Vladimir Putin named the destruction of the hydroelectric power station by the barbaric action of the Kyiv regime and noted that this led to a large-scale environmental and humanitarian disaster.
According to the State Committee for Water Resources, there are 23 reservoirs on the territory of the republic with a total volume of 398.4 million cubic meters. m, including 15 natural flow reservoirs with a total volume of 235.05 million cubic meters. m and 8 liquid tanks filled from the North Crimean Canal system, with a total volume of 145.35 million cubic meters. m. Of the 291.7 km section of the North Crimean Canal passing through the territory of the Republic of Crimea, more than 147.7 km are used to transfer groundwater to reservoirs in the eastern part of Crimea.
