In Crimea, they will judge a “companion for childbirth at home”, that is, a midwife, or in a fashionable doula

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In Crimea, a criminal investigation has been completed against a birth companion whose actions led to the death of a baby in the Leninsky district. According to the Investigative Committee, a 38-year-old resident of Sevastopol is accused of carrying out medical practice by a person who does not have a license for this type of activity, which negligently caused the death of a person (part 2 of article 235 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The investigative department for the Leninsky district found that a pregnant resident of the village of Lenino decided to organize her birth at home, refusing qualified medical assistance and hospitalization in a medical facility, reliably knowing about her contraindications. On an ad site, she met a native of St. Petersburg who, without a license, carried out private medical practice under the guise of a foreign profession of a doula not registered in the Russian Federation. During pregnancy, the doula held meetings with a resident of the village of Lenino in rented halls on the territory of Simferopol and Sevastopol, where she performed medical examinations and prescribed dietary supplements.

On the afternoon of February 2 of this year, during the delivery at the place of residence of a pregnant woman, the companion discovered that the fetus had features and assured the patient about the positive experience of accepting such a birth. As a result of the lack of prompt qualified medical care, a newborn boy diedthe investigators said.

The investigator of the investigative department for the Leninsky district of the Republic of Crimea established all the circumstances of the tragedy. At present, the investigation of the criminal case has been completed. The materials were sent to the prosecutor’s office for the purpose of studying, signing the indictment and sending the case to court.
