In Dzhankoy, a hooligan pyromaniac was responsible for setting fire to a wheat field

In Dzhankoy, the court delivered a verdict in a criminal case against a 56-year-old local resident. He was found guilty of committing crimes under Part 2 of Art. 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“deliberate destruction of another’s property”).
The court established that in July last year, driving his car to a field located near one of the settlements of the Dzhankoy district, he set fire to the wheat growing on it. The actions of the defendant caused damage to a production cooperative engaged in the cultivation of agricultural crops in the amount of more than 42 million rublesthe prosecutor’s office said.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the alleged crimes. However, the Dzhankoy District Court, taking into account the position of the public prosecutor, sentenced the defendant to 4 years in prison to be served in a colony-settlement. The court also satisfied the claim of the cooperative for the recovery from the defendant of the damage caused by the crime. The verdict did not enter into force.
