In Dzhankoy, an accomplice (“courier”) of telephone scammers will be tried

An 18-year-old Crimean has every chance to spend the next five years of his life “interestingly and meaningfully”.

In Dzhankoy, the prosecutor’s office sent to court a criminal case on embezzlement of money from elderly citizens in the amount of more than 2 million rubles. An 18-year-old local resident is charged with part 1 of the law. 2, 3 art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“fraud”).

According to investigators, the defendant acted as a “courier” in a group of telephone scammers who called elderly people, giving deliberately false information that their relatives were involved in a traffic accident, the perpetrators of which they were. They urged the elderly to donate funds to resolve the issue with the affected citizens.

The accused, acting as an intermediary, received money from elderly citizens, which he subsequently transferred to their address at the direction of persons unknown to him using terminals. The total amount of material damage caused to citizens amounted to more than 2 million rublesthe prosecutor’s office said.

The attacker admitted his guilt in full. With the approved indictment, the criminal case was sent to the Dzhankoy District Court for consideration on the merits. The young man faces imprisonment for up to 5 years. And still it is necessary to return money to the deceived pensioners. The prosecutor’s office, on the basis of the applications received from the victims, is working to prepare statements of claim for the recovery of material damage from the guilty person.
