In Evpatoria, the court delivered a verdict in the case of fraud in the amount of more than 4 million rubles

In Evpatoria, the court delivered a verdict in a criminal case against a 29-year-old resident of the Saki district. He was found guilty of committing 10 episodes of crimes under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).
The court found that from March 1 to March 14, 2023, the accused acted as a courier in an organized group of telephone scammers who called elderly residents of the cities of Yevpatoria and Saki and reported that their relatives or acquaintances were responsible for traffic accidents. Members of the group convinced the victims that they should transfer money to compensate for the harm caused to the victims of the accident. These funds in the amount of 100 thousand to 900 thousand rubles were taken from them by a courier. In total, in this way, the attackers lured more than 4 million rubles from 10 victims— said the details in the prosecutor’s office.
Yevpatoriya city court sentenced the perpetrator to 4 years and 6 months in prison to be served in a correctional colony of general regime. The verdict has not entered into force.
