In Feodosia, a courier of online scammers who deceived two pensioners was detained in hot pursuit

A 63-year-old man and a 91-year-old woman contacted the duty station of the Russian Department of Internal Affairs in Feodosia with allegations of telephone fraud. The victims said that the attackers reported that their relatives were responsible for serious accidents. To resolve the issue of not bringing their relatives to criminal liability, the swindlers convinced the elderly man to give 600 thousand rubles, and the grandmother 102 thousand rubles to the courier who arrived at their place of residence.

As a result of operational-search activities, the next day, criminal investigation officers identified the suspect who took money from defrauded citizens and detained him as he was leaving the city. He turned out to be a 23-year-old local resident. He managed to transfer the money stolen from pensioners to his shadow employers— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.

It was established that the young man found “easy money” in one of the instant messengers. There, the so-called curator contacted him and provided the addresses to which the detainee was supposed to come and pick up the cash, and then transfer it to certain details, while receiving a promised reward of 10% of the amount.

Based on these facts, the investigation of the territorial police unit initiated criminal cases based on crimes under Parts 2 and 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The defendant was chosen as a preventive measure in the form of detention.
