In Kerch, two men stole a rare «Chaika». They rode and quit, but they will still go to trial

The duty station of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kerch received a message that unknown persons had stolen a Chaika car. The victim said he left his vehicle near the service station because he was planning to have body work done. Having discovered that he was missing, the man immediately contacted the police.
The investigative team arrived at the scene and began an immediate search for the car, which was soon found in one of the courtyards, not far from the crime scene. In the course of further work, employees of the criminal investigation department of police department No. 1 of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Kerch identified and detained persons involved in the commission of an unlawful act. They turned out to be 26 and 28-year-old local residents who had no previous convictions. The attackers admitted their guilt and told the police that they saw a rare vehicle without a driver’s door and decided to take it for a ride. After some time, the men left the car in the yard on one of the streets— the details of the incident were announced in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Crimea.
An investigator of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Kerch opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime provided for in Part 2 of Article 166 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Wrongful seizure of a car or other vehicle without the purpose of theft by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.” The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to seven years.
The suspect was given a preventive measure in the form of a recognizance not to leave the place.
