In one day in Sevastopol, scammers “seized” more than 850 thousand rubles from gullible citizens
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Sevastopol, cases of fraud against senior citizens continue to be recorded.
Having some information about the potential victim and their relatives, playing on feelings of anxiety for family members, attackers call elderly people, pretend to be their relatives, who got into a traffic accident or were detained for a crime, or impersonate law enforcement officers. Under the pretext of exemption from criminal liability or compensation for damage to the victim, fraudsters convince them to transfer significant sums of money to them through a courier. In just one day in the Leninsky district of Sevastopol, three pensioners born in 1940, 1932 and 1933 suffered from this fraudulent scheme, who suffered damage totaling more than 850 thousand rubles. It should be noted that the victims knew about this type of fraud, but, caught by an unexpected call from strangers, they complied with the requirements of the swindlers, having lost their savings. According to these facts, the employees of the internal affairs bodies initiated criminal cases and take all necessary measures aimed at the search and detention of criminals.— said the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Sevastopol.
In order to prevent these crimes Sevastopol police reminds of the need to take precautions. Explain to relatives and friends of advanced age that when receiving the above calls, you should remain calm and reasonable, not trusting the words of an unfamiliar citizen, no matter who he introduces himself to, even if he addresses by name and patronymic, and also knows that your relatives have a vehicle.
Remember that real law enforcement officers do not demand the transfer of money under the pretext of paying off responsibility. Only scammers can make such claims over the phone. In such a situation, we recommend that you interrupt the conversation with the attacker and contact your loved ones to make sure that everything is in order with them. If their phone is not answered, then you can call other family members or report a suspicious call to the police by dialing 102. Never give money or other material assets to criminals.
If you have suffered from a crime, then you must immediately contact the nearest territorial unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia or report it by the above phone number.
