Recall that rabies is an acute viral infectious disease common to humans and animals. In humans, this disease is called hydrophobia. Infection of humans and animals occurs through direct contact with sources of the rabies pathogen as a result of a bite or salivation of damaged skin or external mucous membranes, as well as through contact with objects contaminated with infected saliva.
Animal bite victims should be aware that the causative agent of rabies can be found in the saliva of a sick animal up to 10 days before the first signs of the disease appear. Therefore, you should not rely on the fact that the animal that bit you looked clinically healthy. From domestic animals, dogs and cats most often become a source of infection for people, from wild ones — foxes, wolves, badgers and various rodents.
Hydrophobia (rabies) of a person can only be prevented by a full course of preventive vaccinations, the effectiveness of which depends on the period of seeking medical help. Bites are more common among children who need to avoid unnecessary contact with animals. To prevent rabies, pets must be registered with the state veterinary service and vaccinated against rabies annually.
For questions about preventive vaccination of pets against rabies, please contact the State Veterinary Service at +7 (978) 300-95-65.
Dear residents, be careful! Vaccinate pets, avoid contact with wild animals. While in the forest, be careful: wild animals infected with rabies (foxes, badgers, wolves) can be aggressive or, conversely, affectionate, especially foxes. Never allow children to pet or pick up homeless animals. In case of any disease of the animal, and especially if symptoms of rabies appear (profuse salivation, difficulty swallowing, convulsions), in no case self-medicate, immediately report this to the state veterinary service: +7 (978) 300-95-65, + 7 (978) 300-93-23.
