In Russia, from June 1, there is a «summer discount» for rail trips for children from 10 to 17 years old
CrimeaPRESS reports:
A 50% discount starts for children from 10 to 17 years old for traveling in Russia on long-distance trains from June 1 to August 31. The reduced fare is valid in reserved seat and general carriages of long-distance fast and passenger trains, some Lastochkas, as well as in double-decker compartment carriages.
A 50% discount is provided only on the fare, the fee for using a set of bed linen is charged in full (when traveling in double-decker compartment cars, the cost of a set of services is additionally charged). The discount is not available on high-speed and high-speed trains— explained in Russian Railways.
This summer, it is planned to transport more than 620,000 children by train as part of organized groups. For such transportation, 14 trains were formed from cars of the last years of construction, equipped with environmentally friendly bio-toilet complexes, automated drinking water supply systems and air conditioning systems.
In addition, the issue of organizing combined routes for children’s groups is being worked out due to the high load on the railway network. Children’s groups will be able to proceed from the southern airports of the Russian Federation to the Black Sea coast by rail.
Russian Railways reported that the holding has been holding such an action for the eighth year in a row. In the summer season of 2022, more than 3.1 million passengers took advantage of the 50% discount on long-distance trains, which is 25.6% more than in 2021.
TASS clarifies: the discount for the summer period applies to children from new regions of Russia. Upon boarding, passengers will be required to present a travel document and an identity document on the basis of which the travel document was purchased (under the age of 14, a notarized copy of the birth certificate is allowed). The age of the child is determined on the day of the start of the trip.
The railway carrier Grand Service Express (GSE), which carries out transportation within Russia, including to Crimea, told TASS that there is also a 50% discount for travel of children from 10 to 17 years old for the summer period.
Students aged 10 to 17 years old inclusive can travel on our trains with a 50% discount, but not in all carriages. In summer — from June 1 to August 31 — only in reserved seats, and on other dates also in two-story compartments. In autumn, winter and spring, a certificate from the school is required; in summer, travel is allowed without a certificate.— explained in the GSE.
Russian Railways recalled that on a permanent basis there is a “child fare” for children aged 5 to 10 years, which is 35% of the full “adult” fare, and children under the age of 5 travel free of charge (provided that they do not occupy a separate place).
The GSE, in turn, noted that for children under the age of five on the Tavria trains that run between the Crimean Peninsula and the main part of the Russian Federation, travel is free if the child does not take a separate seat. At the children’s fare, children from 5 to 10 years old can buy a ticket, from which about 35% of the cost of the adult fare is paid.
