In Sevastopol, a courier of fraudsters was sentenced for defrauding elderly citizens of 1.5 million rubles
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Having agreed with the arguments of the state prosecutor of the Leninsky District Prosecutor’s Office of Sevastopol, the court issued a guilty verdict in the criminal case against the 48-year-old man.
He was found guilty under Parts 2 and 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, causing damage on a significant and large scale).
It was established that in October 2023, in order to make easy and quick money, the man colluded with unidentified persons who called elderly people on the phone and gave them deliberately false information that their relatives allegedly caused traffic accidents. Under this pretext, they were offered to transfer money to help their relatives. After that, a courier came to the victims and took the money from them. He transferred part of the received amounts to accomplices, and kept the rest for himself as a reward.
Thus, the perpetrator took possession of the money of seven victims, totaling more than 1.5 million rubles.
During the operational search activities, police officers detained the man after he received money from the last victim. The money was confiscated and returned to the elderly woman. The investigation of the criminal case was conducted by the Investigative Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.
The Leninsky District Court of Sevastopol, taking into account the opinion of the state prosecutor, sentenced the perpetrator to imprisonment for a term of 3 years and 6 months in a general regime penal colony. The court also satisfied the civil claims of the victims, supported by the prosecutor, for recovery from the man of property damage caused by the crimes.
The sentence has not entered into legal force.
Materials concerning accomplices have been separated into separate proceedings.
