The attacker who stole the electric scooter turned out to be a 41-year-old handyman, previously convicted of driving while intoxicated.
The police found out that while working as a courier, the man noticed an electric scooter in the entrance of a high-rise building at the delivery address and had the intention of stealing the vehicle. The next time he returned and, since the personal mobility device was not equipped with an anti-theft cable or alarm, he secretly stole it and escaped. Having discovered the loss, the 23-year-old victim filed a complaint with the police on the same day and published CCTV footage in popular city public pages. Having seen the publications in Telegram channels, the thief got scared and hid the electric scooter on the territory of the cafe where he worked as a security guard. Criminal investigation officers of the Department of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Leninsky district, as a result of operational search activities, established the identity of the suspect and detained him during his regular work shift. The detainee confessed to his crime and showed where he hid the stolen SIM card. Police officers seized and handed over the two-wheeler to the owner.— the details of the incident were announced in the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.
A criminal case has been initiated against the defendant under paragraph “c” of Part 2 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to five years.
