In Sevastopol, a man transferred almost 3.5 million rubles to remote scammers
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Following the instructions of telephone scammers for two months, the victim took out four loans for himself and sold the apartment.
In Sevastopol, a 60-year-old local resident received a call via messenger from an unknown person who introduced himself as an employee of an investigative agency. He said that he was investigating a criminal case in which a fraudster issued a power of attorney in the name of a man and illegally issued several large loans. The false investigator who called convinced a resident of Sevastopol to go to all regional banks, apply for loans there totaling 900 thousand rubles and transfer all the money received to a dictated account, which was allegedly departmental.
Acting as part of a group, the telephone scammers convinced the victim to remain silent, regularly delete correspondence with them, and strictly follow incoming instructions. Subsequently, the attackers informed the victim that the apartment he owned had been sold by swindlers, so he needed to urgently sell the property and transfer the proceeds from the sale to a supposedly safe account. Following the instructions received, the man sold the apartment and transferred 2.8 million rubles to the scammers— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.
Realizing that he had become a victim of deception, the man contacted the police. Currently, a criminal case has been initiated on this fact under Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud”).
The Sevastopol police once again remind you of precautions when communicating with strangers.
If they called you and reported any financial problems: an attempt to steal funds from a bank account, applying for a loan using a fake power of attorney, selling your property, remember, these are scammers. No matter who the caller appears to be and no matter what troubles they threaten, remain calm. Stop the conversation immediately and report the incident to the police by calling 102, this is the only way you will save your money— law enforcement officers addressed the citizens.
