In Sevastopol, a medical college student, instead of studying to become a paramedic, fleeced grandmothers completely
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Sevastopol, police and special forces of the Russian Guard detained a 20-year-old medical college student from Kerch. The guy is a participant in the fraudulent scheme “Your relative caused an accident.”
The suspect found an advertisement in one of the instant messengers for work as a criminal courier. After contacting the anonymous administrator and discussing the details of the upcoming work, the young man agreed to cooperate with telephone scammers. On the instructions of his curator, he came to Sevastopol and visited three pensioners aged from 73 to 88 years old, who were called by attackers before his visit, introduced themselves as law enforcement officers and reported that their daughters were responsible for serious road accidents.
Then, supposedly in order to resolve the issue with the injured party and not bring their relatives to criminal liability, the scammers convinced the elderly women to transfer large sums of money to the courier. Being in a state of extreme excitement and thinking that they were helping their loved ones avoid trouble, the victims gave the messenger all their savings— the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol reported details.
The total amount of damage exceeded two million rubles.
The police found out that the detainee transferred the stolen money to the bank accounts dictated to him, and for his illegal services he received about 100 thousand rubles, which he spent on buying a new smartphone and a gift for his friend.
Criminal cases have been initiated against the accomplice of the swindlers under Parts 2, 3 and 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
