In Sevastopol, a resident of Bryansk stole 780 thousand rubles from pensioners
CrimeaPRESS reports:
It was established that a 40-year-old resident of Bryansk, who had been repeatedly convicted of theft, found an advertisement on one of the social networks for work as a courier under the fraudulent scheme “Your relative caused an accident.” Having contacted the anonymous administrator, the man discussed the details of the upcoming work and the amount of payment — five thousand rubles for each successful theft. At the direction of his curators, he visited five residents of Sevastopol aged from 68 to 83, who were called in advance by scammers, introduced themselves as investigators, and were informed that their daughters were responsible for serious road accidents. Ostensibly to be exempt from criminal liability, the scammers convinced pensioners to hand over the cash they had to the courier. Believing the scammers, the victims gave their accomplice a total of 780 thousand rubles. The suspect transferred the proceeds from crime to the accounts indicated to him, and spent his part of the criminal earnings on the purchase of a mobile phone— reported the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.
Criminal cases have been initiated against the detainee under Part 2 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to five years. The defendant was detained in accordance with Article 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation.
