In Sevastopol, operatives detained a student who worked as a courier for remote scammers.
Criminal investigation officers of the Department of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Gagarinsky district detained another accomplice of swindlers, who stole 750 thousand rubles under the fraudulent scheme “Your relative caused an accident.”
It was established that a 20-year-old resident of Yalta, being a second-year student at one of the Sevastopol universities, decided to look for a well-paid job. Having discovered a suitable advertisement in one of the chats of a popular instant messenger with high earnings and part-time work, he contacted an anonymous administrator, who told him in correspondence that the upcoming work consisted of visiting elderly citizens, obtaining money from them by deception and transferring it to dictated accounts. After going through the identity verification procedure and discussing the amount of payment, the young man agreed to cooperate with the scammersreports the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.
Let us note that the student did manage to “earn extra money.” However, it is precisely these same “easy money«They brought him to the dock. The guy turned out to be not such an “innocent lamb.” He understood perfectly well what he was doing.
At the direction of his handlers, the suspect visited three elderly residents of Sevastopol, whom the attackers called in advance, introduced themselves as law enforcement officers and reported that their loved ones were allegedly responsible for the accident. Under the pretext of releasing relatives from criminal liability, the swindlers convinced the victims to transfer large sums to the arriving young man, whose face was carefully hidden with a cap and mask. Having received the money, the courier transferred it to accounts controlled by the scammers, and kept 10% of the stolen amount for himself as a reward.,” the police noted.
As a result of operational search activities, the attacker was detained. During his personal search, the police discovered and seized more than 60 thousand rubles, allegedly obtained by criminal means.
Criminal cases under Part 2 and Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud”). The defendant faces up to six years in prison.
