In Sevastopol, an intranasal method of administering the Sputnik V vaccine is available

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Sergei Gryga, Chief Freelance Epidemiologist of the City Health Department, spoke about the features of the procedure for the intranasal method of introducing the Sputnik V vaccine and preparing for it. The broadcast took place in the official group of the Government of Sevastopol in the VKontakte social network. According to the specialist, the intranasal method of administering the drug is suitable for vaccination only of adult citizens. At the same time, it is better to use it in young people due to the absence of chronic diseases. For the elderly and those with chronic nasal conditions, it is recommended that the vaccine be administered twice by injection.

Previously, the Sputnik V vaccine was administered by injection, but now it is possible to use the nasal method. In the same way — twice, with a gap of 21 day. To date, it is not advisable to use Sputnik V intranasally as a primary vaccination: the desired effect will not be achieved. Therefore, this method is recommended for revaccination. It allows you to develop local immunity on the nasal mucosa and fight viruses at the stage of their introduction into the body , the press service of the chief freelance epidemiologist of the Department of Health quotes.

Also, according to him, the presence of a runny nose or pathological nasal congestion reduces the effectiveness of intranasal vaccination.

The person must be healthy and with free nasal breathing. After this method of administering the vaccine, it is necessary to stay in the clinic for half an hour under the supervision of a doctor in case of allergic reactions, and also for two hours do not smoke, do not drink alcohol, do not use nasal sprays for several hours and try not to sneeze. Otherwise, the effectiveness of the vaccine will be reduced , emphasizes Sergey Gryga.

The chief freelance epidemiologist added that thanks to the mass vaccination of past periods and revaccination, general herd immunity is maintained in Sevastopol. The situation with the incidence of coronavirus infection is manageable.

Sevastopol was one of the first regions that managed to achieve high rates in herd immunity to COVID-. Now it continues to be maintained at a high level — about %. Thanks to the advent of the nasal method of administering the vaccine, the number of people who come for revaccination has increased — by about 100 people more than last week , notes Sergey Gryga .

During the broadcast, he also reminded that residents of the city can be vaccinated against coronavirus and influenza at the same time.

Traditionally, on September 1, influenza vaccination began. The city has such vaccines as Sovigripp, Grippol Quadrivalent. The delivery of the Ultrix Quadri vaccine is expected, which is used for children aged 6 months to 6 years and pregnant women. In Sevastopol, more than 175 thousand people have been vaccinated against influenza — this is 55% of the planned number. If you have a nasal nozzle, you do not need to give two injections, and there are no contraindications to give two vaccines at the same time. This will only help protect against two infections that have serious health consequences , the specialist says.

Recall that live broadcasts in the group of the Government of Sevastopol in the social network «VKontakte» are held on a regular basis. On the eve of the next broadcast, everyone can leave their questions, wishes and suggestions under the announcement post.
