In Sevastopol, citizens gave more than one million rubles to scammers in a day

CrimeaPRESS reports:

In just one day in Sevastopol, four women and a man became victims of attackers. The scammers were believed by people aged 81 to 91.

It was established that unknown persons called the victims, introduced themselves as employees of various law enforcement agencies and reported that their close relatives — daughters and sisters became the perpetrators of an accident with serious consequences, entailing criminal liability. Phone scammers convinced senior citizens that the only way to avoid trouble was to pay a large amount of money as a bribe. Without giving time to think, the attackers demanded that they immediately and accurately follow their instructions — not to inform anyone about the telephone conversation, quickly collect all the money savings and hand them over to the arriving courier. All the victims complied with the demands of the criminals and lost a total of about 1.1 million rubles.— noted in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Sevastopol.

According to these facts, criminal cases were initiated under Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation «Fraud», police officers carry out operational search activities aimed at identifying and detaining suspects.

The police appeal to the residents of Sevastopol: be sure to warn your relatives about the existence of this fraudulent scheme, tell them that calls with the message “your relative is in trouble and you need money to save him” are made exclusively by scammers. Discuss with them backup options for communication through mutual friends, neighbors, work colleagues.
