In Sevastopol, defenders and residents of besieged Leningrad will receive payment for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Veterans of the Great Patriotic War who were awarded the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad” or the badge “Resident of Siege Leningrad” will receive a one-time payment of 50 thousand rubles at the end of this year.
The corresponding decree was signed by President Vladimir Putin. The payment is timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade. The significant date will be celebrated next year on January 27th. The Social Fund will make payments in December 2023 and January 2024. It will be transferred to Russian veterans, including those permanently residing in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Payments will also be received by awarded residents of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transnistria. The Siege of Leningrad lasted 872 days, from September 8, 1941 to January 27, 1944, and became one of the most terrible crimes of Nazi Germany during the Second World War. During the siege, according to various sources, from 600 thousand to 1.5 million citizens died — noted in the press service of the SFR Branch in Sevastopol.
Let us recall that the Pension Fund of Russia, which this year became part of the Social Fund, had previously made one-time payments to veterans on anniversaries. For example, a payment for the 70th anniversary of the Victory in 2015 and a payment for the 75th anniversary of the Victory in 2020. 55 veterans of the Great Patriotic War live in Sevastopol, awarded the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad” or the badge “Resident of Siege Leningrad”.
