In Sevastopol, events dedicated to the 84th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War were held

June 22 in Russia — a commemorative date, day of memory and sorrow. Today has been 84 years old from the day when the Great Patriotic War began. The governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Podvozhaev took part in commemorative events that traditionally take place in the city.

On Nefyodov Street, the head of the city, together with the director of the museum-reserve of heroic defense and liberation of Sevastopol, museum staff, and residents of the city, laid flowers to the memorable sign of the first victims of the Great Patriotic War.

Dear Sevastopol residents, every year on June 22, we are going here at night to remember the first hours of the war. The first minutes of the war — were here, and this is impossible to forget. And today we recall all the Sevastopol residents, all the inhabitants of our Motherland, who gave their lives during the Great Patriotic War, -quotes the press service of the Government of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev.

The memorial of the heroic defense of Sevastopol 1941-1942. All -Russian actions «Candle of Memory» and «Fiery Pictures of War» took place. The participants of the action — “Victory Volunteers”, “Unarmia”, “Young Guard”, “Russian Student Drinks”, “People’s Front”, and Youth of the City — laid out the image of the “Soldier and Sailor” monument from 16 thousand candles and the inscription: “Remember”. The participants honored the memory of the minute of silence in the Great Patriotic War.

One of the most famous Sevastopol actions dedicated to the Great Patriotic War was held on the Count’s Pier: “Ships of Dreams”. Its participants launched at sea paper boats in memory of school graduates who did not have time to meet peaceful dawn in 1941.

Mikhail Razvozhaev noted the special role of these actions in preserving historical memory:

For Sevastopol, today is filled with special meanings, and many thanks to all boys and girls who keep the memory of the Great Patriotic War. Promotions that take place every year are very touching, very correct, they are aimed just at preserving the historical memory that our president speaks of and which is sacred for every Sevastopol. Today, together we laid out of the candles the image of the famous monument to the soldier and the sailor, launched boats of dreams. On my boat I wrote a wish: “Our Victory” — and saw that many guys write the same words, the same wishes. We know that we will win. We know that good will definitely triumph over evil, the criminal Kiev regime will be punished, and the victory will be behind us— said the governor.

All -Russian actions “Candle of Memory”, “Fiery Pictures of War” and the regional action “Ships of Dream” were held in Sevastopol for the eleventh time.
