In Sevastopol — International military-historical festival «Russian Troy»
CrimeaPRESS reports:
On September 3, Malakhov Kurgan will host the 5th International Military Historical Festival «Russian Troy», dedicated to the heroic defense of Sevastopol during the days of the Crimean War 1853-1856 years. The event is organized by the Museum of Defense of Sevastopol with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Russian Military Historical Society.
«Russian Troy» Sevastopol called Victor Hugo. The historian Camille Rousset explained the metaphor of the great writer in this way: “All this also happened on the corner of the earth, on the border between Asia and Europe, where great empires met … Ten years before Troy, ten months before Sevastopol.” The month turned into a year. Such was this great Sevastopol epic.
According to the organizers of the festival, «its main task is to tell about the active nature of the first defense of the city, to show the strength and inflexibility of the Russian spirit.» This event will become one of the largest historical festivals. About 200 participants will recreate the atmosphere of the middle of the 19th century on Malakhov Kurgan, show the life and life of soldiers and townspeople of that time.
On this day, numerous interactive platforms will operate on the territory of the memorial complex, both familiar to our guests from the Russian Troy festivals of past years, and completely new ones. Among them are the school of the reenactor «Bivouac» and «Young gunners of the Sevastopol bastions». Here the children will be reincarnated as soldiers and sailors of the middle of the 19th century, and experienced reenactors will give them lessons in drill training, search work, and also teach them how to understand the construction of artillery pieces. Festival guests can expect exciting interactive classes at the “School of Maritime Affairs” where they will be taught the flag alphabet and knitting marine knots. And the School of Calligraphy will show you how to use quills and ink.
The organizers of the festival tried to fill it with a lot of entertainment that will appeal to both young people and the older generation. Visitors will be able to try themselves as artillerymen and learn about how Count Leo Nikolayevich Tolstoy fought as a lieutenant of artillery in Sevastopol, learn how to bandage the wounded or master the basics of pottery, grinding and blacksmithing. Everyone can feel in the role of the great Russian naval commander Pavel Stepanovich Nakhimov by playing the game «Battle of Sinop». Not far from the monument to Vice Admiral V.A. Kornilov will house a tent where adults and children can make a traditional motanka doll with their own hands.
Craftsmen from different parts of Crimea will come to Malakhov Kurgan to please the guests of the festival with author’s master classes.
Along the main alley of the Malakhov Kurgan there will be exhibitions from the funds of the Museum of Defense of Sevastopol, telling about the life and exploits of A.P. Matyukhin, commander of the 111 (701)-th artillery battery, as well as about the unique finds discovered by archaeologists at the sites of the bastions. For schoolchildren and students, lessons of «living history» will be held. The festival will end with a festive concert.
