In Sevastopol, mineralized strips are being cleared to prevent fires in forests

With the help of soil-cultivating implements, specialists from the Sevastopol forestry today cleared mineralized strips to protect them from fires. In 2023, it is planned to equip 10 km of such lanes in the forests, as well as clear and renew 1,977 km of existing ones.
Special equipment digs up the soil and frees the areas from grass, dry branches and old foliage, the soil is cleared to a mineral layer. A properly equipped mineralized strip helps in the prevention of forest fires. Timely measures taken to arrange mineralized strips near settlements, which are located on the border with forests and farmlands, can reduce the risk of fire spreading to residential areas to a minimum— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the head of the forestry department of the department of natural resources and ecology Roman Denisov.
He also stressed that on April 26 at 14:00 on the basis of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Sevastopol, a meeting with the chairmen of garden associations bordering forests will be held. The meeting will explain fire safety requirements and discuss problematic issues that may be encountered during the 2023 fire season. The Department of Natural Resources and Ecology invites the chairmen of garden associations to a meeting.
