In Sevastopol, overhaul of the facades of cultural heritage sites is underway
CrimeaPRESS reports:
The overhaul of the façade of an apartment building, a cultural heritage site at 8 Gogol Street, is 80% complete. Work here began last year.
This year, the Sevastopol Capital Repair Fund will renovate 195 apartment buildings, 29 of which will have their facades completely renovated. Among the houses where work is already underway are two cultural heritage sites: these are houses on Gogol Street, 8 and on Lenin Street, 34. At both sites, repairs will be completed in the summer,” the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev.
The head of the city emphasized that the work on Gogol, 8 is painstaking: the house, built in 1949, requires special care. There are many architectural elements on the facade, the level of complexity and scale of work is large. In such cases, companies and specialists only with a license for restoration work are allowed to enter the objects. The contractor was a Sevastopol organization that has already been involved in many complex projects.
Time has done its work: some elements of the facade literally crumbled in our hands when work began. Restorers dismantled them, assembled them piece by piece, like a puzzle, created silicone molds based on the master model, and then cast similar elements into them. The internal reinforcement was changed to something more reliable and stainless so that the elements would be attached better and could last longer. The entrance doors of the house on the front facades had long been dismantled, but in the neighboring building the “historical” doors were preserved — drawings were taken from them, according to which all the elements were recreatedthe governor emphasizes.
The building has already restored the crowning cornice, window sills, sandriks (elements above the windows), column capitals, pilasters of balconies and bay windows, decorative wreaths on the pediment, ceiling rosettes, modulons, balusters, balustrades.
As part of the overhaul, work was envisaged to strengthen the delaminated stone masonry by injection, clean the facade using the “soft blasting” method with further manual cleaning, recreate the front part of the stone walls by repairing damaged stones, replenish the loss of masonry by reassembling, and repair the balcony coverings,” notes Dmitry Shpagin, director of the Sevastopol Fund for Assistance to Major Repairs.
In addition, the house will have a new roof. The builders have cleared the attic space and will complete all construction and installation work by the end of the year. Next year, the renovation of two more houses — cultural heritage sites will be completed: No. 2 and No. 4 on Bolshaya Morskaya.
