In Sevastopol, scammers robbed a 77-year-old pensioner. “Saved my daughter” for more than a million
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Over the past 24 hours, the Sevastopol police were contacted by four citizens aged 19 to 77 years old who had suffered from scammers using the most common criminal schemes. The total amount of material damage amounted to 1 million 580 thousand rubles.
The largest amount was given to scammers by a 77-year-old Sevastopol pensioner. He became a victim of the “Your relative was in an accident” scheme.
In the afternoon, a scammer called a 77-year-old pensioner on his landline, introduced himself as a law enforcement officer and said that his daughter was the culprit of the accident. Allegedly, to free her from criminal liability and resolve the issue with the injured party, the attacker convinced the elderly man to transfer all his savings to the arriving courier — almost 1.38 million rubles. Later, when the victim contacted his daughter, he realized that he had become a victim of telephone scammers— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.
An investigation is underway. As well as cases of fraud in the “banking scheme”. Using instant messengers, a 19-year-old city university student and a 46-year-old kindergarten teacher received a call from scammers who introduced themselves as bank employees and reported that criminals were trying to steal their money from their bank accounts. The scammers convinced the victims to transfer a total of 191 thousand rubles to “safe” accounts.
And another case of fraud in Sevastopol. The amount, of course, is not so impressive, but it’s still a shame. The scammer wrote to the 54-year-old truck crane operator in the messenger on behalf of his friend and asked to urgently borrow 15 thousand rubles. The man transferred the specified amount to the account that the attacker provided him, and only then realized that he had been deceived.
The Sevastopol police urge citizens to be attentive and careful. At a minimum, read about such cases. Fraudsters use the same “techniques”. Unfortunately, victims still fall for such tricks every day.
