In Sevastopol, scammers robbed an elderly woman
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Unfortunately, the “Your relative got into an accident” scheme is still working.
In Sevastopol, an 86-year-old local resident became a victim of scammers.
In the afternoon, a stranger called the pensioner’s landline phone, introduced himself as a law enforcement officer and said that her granddaughter was the culprit of a serious accident, and money was needed to not bring her to justice. Fearing for her relative, the woman handed over 30 thousand rubles and an inexpensive mobile phone to the fraudster who arrived at her place of residence. After the transfer of material assets, the victim realized that she had been deceived and contacted the Department of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Leninsky district— the police said.
Based on this fact, police officers have opened a criminal case under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud”) and are taking measures aimed at identifying and searching for the criminals.
In order to prevent such crimes, the Sevastopol police remind you of the need to adhere to precautionary measures.
Remember that strangers may know some information about your family, namely: call by name and patronymic, have information about the availability of a vehicle. In such a situation, you should immediately stop talking with the fake law enforcement officer, avoiding even short communication, and contact your loved ones to make sure that everything is okay with them. Also report a suspicious call to the police by calling 102noted the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol.
