In Sevastopol, scammers “seized” more than 700 thousand rubles from two pensioners
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Employees of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Sevastopol detained another participant in the fraudulent scheme “Your relative became the culprit of an accident.”
It was established that a 39-year-old local resident, who previously worked as a school history teacher, found a job as a courier in a popular messenger chat. After contacting the anonymous administrator, he learned that he would need to take money from senior citizens and transfer it to accounts controlled by the scammers. For his illegal activities, he was supposed to receive 5% of the stolen amount. The man agreed to cooperate with criminals and steal the money of his fellow citizens,” noted the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sevastopol.
In the afternoon, the attackers called an 83-year-old woman and said that her daughter was the culprit of the accident, and a large sum was urgently needed to resolve legal issues and provide medical assistance. The misled pensioner gave more than 600 thousand rubles to the scammers’ accomplice who arrived.
The second victim of the scammers was an 87-year-old man who, thinking that he was helping his own daughter, handed over 125 thousand rubles. The messenger did not have time to transfer the stolen amount to the curators — he was detained by criminal investigation officers near the ATM.
Criminal cases have been initiated against the detained courier under Part 2 and Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”, he faces up to six years in prison. The defendant was chosen as a preventive measure in the form of detention.
