The issue of renaming was considered on February 27 at an extraordinary meeting of the city government. Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev said that the idea belongs to the Dean of the Sevastopol District, Sergiy Halyuta, and instructed to submit a proposal for renaming to a meeting of the toponymic commission in the very near future. During the consideration of the issue, a proposal was also made to equip the square in a new way. This question was forwarded by the head of the city to his deputy, who is in charge of the city economy, Yevgeny Gorlov.

In November 2022, in honor of the Sevastopol soldiers who died during a special military operation, an alley of 65 cypresses and thujas was planted in the student square of Victory Park.
