In Sevastopol, the facades of houses in the city center are being overhauled

In the center of Sevastopol, a major renovation of the facades of houses, including houses that are objects of cultural heritage, is underway. To date, the percentage of repairs to the facade of the house at 4 Ochakovtsev Street is about 50%. The contractor should complete the work by the end of the year.

About 100 houses are under construction. They are now at the completion stage of 50 to 80 percent, depending on the type of work. Our main acceptance period is the end of October — beginning of November. Each operation at a cultural heritage site is justified either by design studies or archival data. That is, we must not make the house better or make it like everyone else, we must make it the way it was built, restoring it as much as possible and preserving its historicity— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the director of the NGO FSKR Sevastopol Dmitry Shpagin.

In total, the capital repair program includes 186 apartment buildings that are cultural heritage sites. On average, work is carried out in eight houses per year, that is, the coverage of cultural heritage sites is about 5% per year.

At Bolshaya Morskaya, 4, the façade is now 60% complete. Restoration work is already underway on the front part, and clearing has been completed. Ahead is work with architectural elements and plastering of the courtyard façade. At Bolshaya Morskaya, 5, major roof repairs are being carried out. The roof will be seam, about 50% of the work has already been completed, – notes Dmitry Shpagin.

At Bolshaya Morskaya, 4 and 2 there is a construction camp in which there is a place where restorers work. They make molds for casting lost architectural elements such as balusters, railings.

For more than a year, work has been carried out on major repairs of the facade at Bolshaya Morskaya, 2 and 4. During this time, the contractor has completed almost completely the work of clearing the stone and courtyard plaster parts. Work is now being carried out to restore the stone, the lost elements are being reassembled, the plaster is being restored to the extent and composition in which it was historically. Architectural elements are dimensioned: elements are either cast or carved from stone, – notes the director of the NGO FSKR Sevastopol.

The work of manufacturing and installing architectural elements is quite labor-intensive. Casting one element, such as a baluster, takes more than three hours, after which it must still rest and dry to acquire the necessary strength.

Let us remind you that next year it is planned to repair about 200 facades.
