Today, as part of the festival of national cultures «Sevetnofest-2023», an interregional scientific and practical conference «Sevastopol: history and ethnology» was held on the basis of the cultural and exhibition center of the Museum of Heroic Defense and Liberation of Sevastopol. More than 30 speakers from different regions of Russia presented their research on the implementation of the state national policy, the history of Sevastopol and the contribution of the peoples of the Russian Federation to the development of the country.
I am very grateful to the Government of Sevastopol and the Department of Internal Policy that they keep this topic in the spotlight in conditions when today we are under unprecedented pressure from the West, when we must record and counteract any attempts aimed at dividing our society. Of course, today it is very important to talk about how this was done in past centuries, and maybe even millennia. What experience do Crimea and Sevastopol have?— the press service of the Government of Sevastopol quotes the Senator of the Russian Federation Ekaterina Altabaeva.
Director of the Department of Internal Policy Sergey Bezdolny noted that the venue for the scientific and practical conference was not chosen by chance:
Sevastopol is the cradle of Orthodoxy, a symbol of the Russian world and an example of interethnic unity, so here is the right place to hold this level of event. The conference brought together representatives of the scientific community, managers and public figures, including those from new regions of Russia. The symbiosis of scientific knowledge, competent management and public initiatives is what allows us to approach the formulation of new meanings that we are obliged to offer society and, above all, the younger generation.
Archimandrite of Savva’s Monastery of the Consecrated City of Melitopol, Zaporizhia and Melitopol Diocese, John, in his welcoming speech to the conference participants, emphasized that Russia today is the only state that openly defends Orthodoxy.
Life experience shows that we were able to not only reconcile all peoples, but also use ethnic groups for good. Today, when there is a war with the collective West, we see how they are trying to play on both ethnic and confessional oppositions. This has also manifested itself in our new regions. The main result of today’s event should be the development of new principles for the interaction of peoples in our state— says the archimandrite.
In total, more than 150 people took part in the scientific and practical conference. The event is part of the large-scale festival of national cultures «Sevetnofest-2023», which is held in the Hero City for the second year in a row.
Tomorrow, July 15, on the basis of the eco-park «Lukomorye», residents and guests of the city are waiting for exhibitions of national-cultural societies, a concert of folklore groups, master classes in arts and crafts, thematic cognitive quizzes and sports relay races.
The festival will end on July 16 with a tour of the historical places of Sevastopol for guests from the sponsored region — the Melitopol district of the Zaporozhye region.
