In Sevastopol, the police have completed a preliminary investigation of a criminal case against a courier of remote fraudsters

The investigator of the department for the investigation of crimes committed using information and telecommunication technologies of the Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Sevastopol completed the investigation of the criminal case under Part 2 and Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud” in relation to a visiting man who participated in the scheme “Your relative caused an accident.”
According to investigators, a 31-year-old resident of Stavropol Krai, previously convicted of theft and robbery, found an ad for a courier job in one of the chats of a popular messenger to make easy and quick money. In correspondence with an anonymous channel administrator, he learned that the upcoming job involved visiting elderly citizens, deceiving them of money and transferring it to the accounts specified to him. On the instructions of his curators, the accused visited four female pensioners from Sevastopol and the Republic of Crimea, who had been previously called by fraudsters, who introduced themselves as law enforcement officers and reported that their relatives and friends had allegedly caused an accident. Under the pretext of exemption from criminal liability, the scammers convinced the victims to hand over large sums of cash to their courier. Following the instructions of his employers exactly, including observing personal secrecy, the messenger came to the women and took from 100 to 314 thousand rubles. The criminal activity of an accomplice of remote scammers was stopped by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol, who detained him on the territory of the Stavropol Territory.
During the investigative actions, the defendant was chosen as a preventive measure in the form of detention. The sanction of the incriminated article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to six years.
The materials of the criminal case, together with the indictment approved by the prosecutor’s office, were sent to the court for consideration on the merits.
