In Sevastopol, they began to develop a design code for the city. In priority: consistency, aesthetics, authenticity
CrimeaPRESS reports:
They will start with the facades of buildings and address plates.
In Sevastopol, they started developing a design code — a document that contains a set of rules for organizing the visual appearance of the city.
At the meeting with the participation of Acting Vice-Governor Maxim Zhukalov, representatives of the Union of Architects, the Union of Designers, the Legislative Assembly and the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the city, issues of project implementation were discussed.
The result of this work will form the basis of legal acts regulating the external appearance of facades and elements of navigation and information. Also, the developed design code will be taken as a basis for making decisions on the coordination of the architectural and urban design of objects.— said Maxim Zhukalov.
The participants of the meeting noted that it is necessary to solve a number of problems related to the unsystematic placement of information structures and signs, heterogeneous coloring of facades, and violation of the appearance of historical buildings. The design code will contain illustrated information — a visual instruction that allows you to professionally decorate the space, emphasize the uniqueness of the place and combine the disparate elements of the urban environment into a single system.
The development of requirements for signboards and architectural elements of facades is one of the city’s development priorities. The design code is a tool that will help emphasize the authentic image of Sevastopol, create a comfortable and safe environment by reducing visual noise, putting in order the external appearance of buildings— said the vice-governor.
The design code of Sevastopol includes two main semantic blocks. The first is the development of the design of address plates, information structures and poster stands, the formation of rules for their design and installation. The second is the creation of a practical guide for working with building facades.
Experts have already analyzed the urban context and development features, systematized existing information structures, are now analyzing the typology of streets, architectural elements of facades, and are working with documents on the protection of cultural heritage sites. The prepared materials will be submitted for consideration by the Architectural and Art Council of Sevastopol, comments and opinions of experts will be taken into account in the final version of the work.
The development of a design code and a roadmap for the implementation of the provisions of the document into regulatory legal acts is planned to be completed in August 2023.
