In Simferopol, an indictment in a criminal case against a 23-year-old local resident was confirmed. He is charged under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).
According to investigators, the young man served as a courier in a group of telephone scammers who called residents of the region and informed them that their relatives were responsible for road accidents. The group members convinced the victims that they should transfer money, supposedly to compensate for the damage caused as a result of the accident. The accused met with elderly citizens who transferred their savings to him.
Thus, the group members stole about 750 thousand rubles from 3 citizens. The illegal actions of the accused were stopped by internal affairs officers— said the prosecutor’s office.
With the approved indictment, the criminal case was sent to the Kiev District Court of the city of Simferopol for consideration on the merits.
