In Simferopol, a student decided to “earn extra money” and shamelessly began helping scammers (for 10% of the amount)
CrimeaPRESS reports:
In Simferopol, a 79-year-old local resident contacted the police. The woman said that her phone received calls from unknown people who introduced themselves as law enforcement officers. The attackers informed the gullible pensioner that her daughter was allegedly responsible for the accident, in which not only she, but also another girl was injured.
The pensioner, believing unknown people, under the pretext of not bringing her daughter to criminal responsibility, as well as the need for her treatment after the accident, handed over money in a total amount of more than 747 thousand rubles to the courier who came to her home.
As a result of operational search activities by employees of the criminal investigation department together with colleagues from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Simferopol, the suspect was identified and detained— reported the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
The scammers’ assistant («courier») turned out to be a 22-year-old Simferopol resident with no previous convictions, a third-year student at one of the local universities. The guy confessed to his crime. He said that he was looking for a way to make easy money and came across such an offer on the Internet. After which he was contacted by the so-called curator, who sent a message with the applicant’s address. The suspect transferred the stolen money to the account specified by the employer, leaving 10% of the amount for himself as a reward. The guy spent the money he earned on his own needs.
The Investigation Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Simferopol opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud). The young man faces a penalty of imprisonment for up to six years. Currently, the attacker is placed in a temporary detention centernoted the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
Moral of the story: by agreeing to earn extra money in this way, the student found himself in the spotlight of the investigation as a suspect, thereby negatively influencing his future fate. The Crimean police warn young people that by agreeing to such offers of easy money, you may become a participant in a fraudulent scheme.
