Ignatiy Grigorievich Akimov was born in 1924 in Nikolaev. He took part in the fighting on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. War invalid of the 1st group. He was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, the medal «For the Victory over Germany».
The war found me in Sverdlovsk. From there they were immediately sent to the central front. They were on the defensive until July 5, 1943, and from 5 to 12 — a terrible week. Our battalion survived.
