In Simferopol, on the site of the Potato Town prisoner of war camp, a museum was opened

On the territory of the Potato Town Memorial Square, created on the initiative of the Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov, a museum in memory of prisoners of the Nazi transit camp for Soviet prisoners of war “Dulag 241” was opened.
According to the press service of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea, historians, Vice-Speaker of the Crimean Parliament Vladimir Bobkov, and relatives of prisoners who came to the opening of the museum from Astrakhan and Dagestan took an active part in collecting the museum collection. The exhibition presents documents from the war years, personal archives, photographs, letters, memories and paintings of former prisoners. There are more than 150 exhibits in total.
According to the head of the highest legislative body of the republic, Vladimir Konstantinov, excursions to the museum will be conducted by students of the Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University named after Fevzi Yakubov under the guidance of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of History Vladimir Polyakov.
Crimeans are actively joining our initiative to preserve the historical memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War. Of course, we support such intentions. For us, they are another confirmation that Crimeans value their past and strive to pass on their knowledge to new generations of Russian citizens“,” noted Vladimir Konstantinov, assuring that “we will continue to do everything in our power to preserve the memory of the Great Patriotic War, of the Heroes who gave their lives for our peaceful sky.”
The first vice-speaker of the Crimean parliament, Efim Fiks, who was present at the opening ceremony, emphasized that time cannot make us forget how much pain and trials befell our Fatherland, the memory of the feat of our people is sacred.
The location for the memory museum was provided by the owner of the building, Viktor Kisilenko, the son of a prisoner of Potato Town.

Zhenya Zhigalina, from November 1941 to April 1944, the Nazi filtration camp “Potato Town” operated; 144 thousand civilians and prisoners of war went through its horrors, whom the invaders destroyed in the most brutal ways. At this site, in May 2023, the Potato Town memorial square was opened in memory of the fallen Soviet prisoners of war.
