In Simferopol, repair work continues at the “Grieving Mother” memorial
CrimeaPRESS reports:
As part of the municipal contract in Simferopol, repair work continues to preserve a cultural heritage site — the “Grieving Mother” memorial.
The rough finishing of the walls at the facility continues; before this, all defects were eliminated and spiral anchors were installed to prevent the walls from cracking in the future.
The facility is under constant control of the city administration. All problematic issues that arise are resolved promptly. We plan to commission the facility this yearsaid the contractors.
Memorial «Grieving Mother».
Beginning in the spring of 1942, a concentration camp operated on the territory of the Krasny state farm, in which at least 8 thousand residents of Crimea were tortured and shot during the occupation.
Leading to the Alley of Sorrows is the road along which thousands of concentration camp prisoners walked to their deaths. The steps lead to a hill that rises above the ditch, where the remains of the victims were found (in 1973 they were reburied in a mass grave in the Simferopol cemetery).
In the center of the composition is a seven-meter figure of a woman installed on the top of a hill. The site of the executions is marked by a memorial stele with bas-relief images of human faces.
