In April of this year, the State Council of the Republic of Crimea adopted a bill establishing a new regional memorial date on October 23 — the Day of Remembrance and Glory of the Crimean Partisans and Underground Fighters.
The laying ceremony was attended by Deputy Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Bobkov, head of the Simferopol administration Mikhail Afanasyev, his deputy Vladimir Kim, head of the municipal formation of the city district of Simferopol of the Republic of Crimea, chairman of the Simferopol city council Viktor Ageev, veterans, heads and employees of specialized structural divisions of the city administration, invited persons, as well as residents and guests of the city.
It was on this day, October 23, in 1941, that the Headquarters of the Crimean partisan movement was created. The partisan and underground movement is one of the important pages in the history of the Great Patriotic War. During the period of complete occupation of the peninsula, the Crimean partisans were the third front in the rear of the German-Romanian troops and posed a significant threat to its communications. The fighters not only brought victory closer, but also raised the patriotic spirit on the peninsula. We are rightfully proud of the exploits of our fellow countrymen! Eternal glory and bright memory to all who died defending the countryMikhail Afanasyev greeted those present.
As a sign of memory and respect, those present honored the memory of the victims with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the monument.
REFERENCE: The struggle of Crimean partisans and underground fighters against the occupation regime continued for 865 days. During this time, they carried out more than one and a half thousand operations on enemy communications and withstood 252 major battles with punitive forces, destroyed and captured about 34 thousand enemy soldiers and officers. Partisans and underground fighters shot down 2 planes, disabled 211 guns, 17 tanks and armored vehicles, 2 armored trains and derailed 79 military trains with enemy equipment, ammunition, fuel, food and manpower. During the period of hostilities, over 12 thousand people of different nationalities fought in the ranks of partisans and underground fighters. Of these, more than 2 thousand people died in battle, died from wounds or exhaustion. The military and civil feat of partisans and underground fighters serves for us as an example of courage, bravery and love for their Motherland.
