In Simferopol, they honored the memory of prisoners of the Potato Town camp

April 11 marks the International Day of the Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps. Today in Simferopol, on the site of the former Nazi transit camp “Potato Town” on Zhenya Zhigalina Street, a funeral meeting was held to honor the memory of the camp prisoners.
The event was attended by Deputy Head of the Administration of the City of Simferopol Alexander Semenchenko, officials of the administration of the Crimean capital and deputies of the Simferopol City Council, employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Simferopol, members of veterans’ organizations, representatives of the clergy and the public, as well as residents and guests of the Crimean capital.
Those gathered honored the victims with a minute of silence and laid wreaths and flowers at the memorial sign to the victims of the Nazi transit camp «Potato Town».
Deputy head of the city administration Alexander Semenchenko emphasized that Simferopol residents cherish the memory of the great feat of their compatriots in the Great Patriotic War:
Today we honor the memory of all those who were captured by the Nazis and sent to concentration camps, who died from the cruelty of the Nazi regime. We remember those who can no longer be returned, and those terrible years of war, when millions of people died, we bow to the courage, fortitude and faith of all who went through the concentration camps. Our common duty to the departed and the survivors is to remember the monstrous pages of history, the perseverance, courage and feat of the unconquered prisoners of fascist camps.
After laying flowers, all guests were given a tour of the museum on the territory of the former Nazi camp “Potato Town”.
