In Stary Krym — an exhibition of paintings and graphics «Under the scarlet sail of a dream»

On August 18, 2023, at the Literary and Art Museum of the city of Stary Krym, a creative meeting was held with the artists of the Crimean Republican branch of the All-Russian creative public organization «Union of Artists of Russia». Masters of the brush, museologists and spectators examined the relationship between painting and literature on the example of the work of the fairy tale writer Alexander Stepanovich Grin, who lived in the city of Stary Krym in the last months of his life. The writer left a rich cultural heritage that inspired many directors, poets, writers and, of course, painters.

Konstantin Paustovsky, who was kind to Green’s work, dedicated the essay «The Storyteller» to him, which was included in the story «The Black Sea». Poets: Alexander Yudakhin, Pavel Kogan, Valentina Glazunova and many others dedicated their poems to the writer and the heroes of his works. In 2000, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the birth of A. S. Green, the Union of Writers of Russia, the administration of the city of Kirov and the city of Slobodsky established the annual Russian Literary Prize named after. A. Green for works for children and youth imbued with the spirit of romance and hope.

It is significant that 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of the most famous work of Alexander Grin — the story «Scarlet Sails» about the determined and purposeful Gray and the dreamy daughter of the sailor Assol, who lives in a world of dreams that contrasts so strongly with the cruel world of fellow villagers — a story about confrontation dreams and reality. The work was published 270 times, including 250 times in Russian. The fairy tale «Scarlet Sails» was reflected on movie screens, theater stages and right on the Neva, where a fabulous brig appears at the end of June. It is amazing that the author, whom fate tested for strength, throwing him into prison and dooming him to a penniless existence, managed to keep an amazing fairy-tale world inside himself and give it to millions of readers.

Every year, on August 23, a scarlet sail rises over the city of Stary Krym in honor of the writer-storyteller’s birthday. On the eve of a significant date on August 18, 2023, an exhibition of paintings and drawings «Under the scarlet sail of a dream» Crimean cities: Simferopol, Evpatoria, Stary Krym, Feodosia, Bakhchisaray, Alushta, Yalta, Sevastopol. The artists dedicated their works to the life and work of Alexander Grin, many marinas depict the places where the writer lived, worked, where the images of the heroes of his amazing works were born. The exposition of the exhibition presents the works of the chairman of the branch of the Union of Artists of Russia Elena Molchanova-Dudchenko, outstanding artists of our time: Maria Shevchuk-Chernogorodova, Veronika Shevchuk, Victoria Korkishko, Sergey Filimonov, Alexander Kropko, as well as Tatyana Matyushkina, Alexander Zgursky, Irina Klyueva, Evgeny Badusev, Elena Prin, Tatyana Zvyagina and others.
