In the Crimean Perinatal Center of the Republican Clinical Hospital named after N.A. Semashko introduces new treatment technologies

In the Perinatal Center of the State Budgetary Institution of Healthcare of the Republic of Crimea «Republican Clinical Hospital named after. ON THE. Semashko, new treatment technologies are being introduced, as well as conditions for patients are improving. At the moment, the center’s specialists have begun to apply a unique minimally invasive method for the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity in the form of intravitreal administration (that is, using a syringe and a thin needle) of inhibitors of the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor. Retinopathy is a serious eye disease that most often develops in premature babies.

About 80% of premature babies face such a problem as retinopathy. Previously, for its treatment, we performed only laser coagulation of the retina. This year, two of our ophthalmologists underwent special training in Moscow clinics on the intravitreal administration of VEGF receptor inhibitors. The preparations necessary for such a technique were also supplied. Now we are actively introducing the method of intravitreal administration of a substance in the department of pathology of newborns and premature babies. After this treatment technology, children better tolerate the postoperative period and the recovery period, and the risk of retinal detachment is also minimized. The specialist also noted that the structure of the department, in addition to pediatric ophthalmology, includes several profiles of care, including pediatric surgery and neonatology. So, in terms of the introduction of endoscopic surgery, the specialists of the department achieved a positive result in nursing and surgical treatment of a child with esophageal atresia — the lack of connection between the upper and lower segments of the esophagus.

In addition, modern methods of ultrasound diagnostics are actively used. The doctors of the department are switching from routine X-ray examinations to more gentle methods in the form of Dopplerography (a highly informative method of ultrasound diagnosis of vascular diseases). An ultrasound of the lungs is also performed.

The specialists of the department continue to master the most modern methods of treating pathologies in newborns and introduce them in the Crimea. In addition to improving the quality of medical care for children and mothers, the Perinatal Center is working to improve conditions for patients. So, the institution opened a renovated discharge room and a photo zone for memorable pictures of families with newborns.

In the new discharge room, modern and maximally comfortable conditions are created. We also have a motto: “Together for a new life” — this means that only through the joint efforts of medical workers and women can we achieve good results in carrying a pregnancy and giving birth to a healthy baby.
