In the Republic of Crimea it was proposed to introduce a ban on inducing abortions

CrimeaPRESS reports:

Abortion cannot be banned, but…

The Simferopol and Crimean diocese submitted for consideration to the Public Chamber of the Republic of Crimea (OP RK) a draft regional law, which implies a ban on inducing women to have an abortion. The document was supported by the Public Chamber commission on the preservation and strengthening of traditional Russian spiritual and moral values.

Article two directly prohibits inducement to artificial termination of pregnancy on the territory of the Republic of Crimea. In particular, a definition of this concept is given. It is understood as the commission of actions with the aim of forcing a pregnant woman to have an artificial termination of pregnancy through persuasion, offers, bribery, deception, and making other demands. Article three provides for administrative liability for inducing abortionTASS quotes the head of the legal department of the Simferopol and Crimean diocese, Archpriest John of Pristinsky.

He clarified that the size of the fine will be determined (deputies of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea — ed.) after the adoption of the law banning inducement to abortion. The head physician of Simferopol Maternity Hospital No. 2, Ilya Glazkov, also spoke in favor of such a document, and he asked to supplement the bill with a clause that would exclude from the ban doctor’s recommendations for medical reasons.

The fact that this was done is correct. Because private business is, first of all, money. Budget healthcare is health, and then money. Therefore, the emphasis that was in private clinics led precisely to, say, a veiled inclination towards abortion. Because it’s about making money. In 1987, I performed 2 thousand abortions in six months. I worked as an obstetrician-gynecologist, I was a young specialist, I did them, I didn’t think about anything. It only dawned on me in 1997, 10 years later, what I was doing at all. So I want to thank both myself and you that we are going the right waysaid Glazkov.

Answering the question whether abortions should be completely banned in the region, the chief physician said that this would only lead to their criminalization and an increase in mortality.

We must do what we can to minimize abortions, and that depends on all of us sitting and standing here. Abortion cannot be banned. I think this would be a mistake. And as a person I am for the ban on abortion, as a doctor I am against it,” Glazkov clarified.

The head of the Crimean Metropolis, Metropolitan Tikhon of Simferopol and Crimea, took part in the meeting of the commission. In the final text of the document, inducement to abortion is interpreted as “forcing a pregnant woman to have an artificial abortion through persuasion, proposals, bribery, deception, or making other demands«

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the problem of abortion in the country acute. Later, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ advocated the adoption of a federal law banning inducement to abortion. In Crimea, private clinics officially notified the republican Ministry of Health of their voluntary refusal to provide abortion services.
