In the Republic of Crimea they are harvesting potatoes and beets
Crimean farmers have harvested a little more than 50% of the potato sown area. For the 2023 harvest, potatoes were planted on more than 3 thousand hectares of Crimean fields.
Now our vegetable growing enterprises have already harvested an area of approximately 1,600 hectares, from which they have collected more than 25 thousand tons of “second bread”. This year, the largest areas where the crop is planted are in the Dzhankoy, Kirov and Krasnogvardeysky districts. As a rule, our farmers give preference to such varieties as Slavyanka, Gala, Nevsky, Zhukovsky early, Colomba, Rosara, Riviera. Now farmers are harvesting late varieties from the fields. One of the enterprises where such work is carried out is our flagship – SEC “Pravda” in the Pervomaisky district. In the spring, early potatoes were planted here on about 50 hectares, from which the harvest had already been harvested. The later one occupied about 80 hectares, from 60 of which 1,500 tons of crops have already been harvested. Also, beets have now begun to be harvested here. In addition to these vegetables, the farm also grows carrots, onions, cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes and many others.,” the press service of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Crimea Andrei Savchuk quotes.
Andrey Savchuk also noted that this year the expected crop of potatoes in all categories of farms is agricultural organizations, peasant farms, individual entrepreneurs, as well as households of more than 70 thousand tons. This is approximately the same as last year.
In addition to potatoes, farmers are now harvesting table beets. More than 3 thousand tons of root crops have already been harvested from 200 hectares of fields. In total, the area under table beets remains to be harvested over 500 hectares, which is 30 hectares more than last year. Agricultural producers are also busy harvesting other borscht vegetables: cabbage, onions and carrots. About 50 thousand tons of these crops have already been collectednotes the minister.
