In the Republic of Crimea, representatives of the Interreligious Working Group visited institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service

SIZO-2 and UFITs No. 1 at IK-1 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol were visited by representatives of the Interreligious Working Group.
During the visit to Detention Facility No. 2, a meeting was held with the participation of the assistant head of the Federal Penitentiary Service for organizing work with believers — the chairman of the Interreligious Working Group, Archpriest Roman Tsurkan, the Deputy Mufti of Crimea for interaction with the Federal Penitentiary Service, the chief imam of the city of Simferopol Muhammad Islamov and the leadership of the institution, which included Issues and a plan for implementing joint events for 2024 on the spiritual and moral education of convicts, held as part of the Year of the Family, were discussed. After that, representatives of the IWG visited the Federal Research Center No. 1, where they held a conversation with those sentenced to forced labor on the topic: “Family cohesion from the point of view of Christianity and Islam,” aimed at strengthening family values and developing motivation for a law-abiding lifestyle— reported the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
At the end of the visit, the official opening of a prayer room took place on the territory of the site, functioning as a correctional center in the city of Simferopol, in which convicts of different religions will be able to perform religious rites.
Let us note that the main goal of the events held in Crimea by representatives of the Interreligious Working Group is to create and strengthen a tolerant attitude towards representatives of different faiths, strengthen interethnic and interfaith harmony.
