In the Sevastopol forest found an air bomb weighing half a ton

An explosive object was found on May 19 in the Nakhimovsky district of the city on the territory of the Mekenzievskoye forestry. According to the results of the examination of the find and the study of the situation, it was established that this is a German-made SC-500 air bomb weighing 500 — while the condition and type of its fuse allow transportation.

The radius of fragmentation during the detonation of such ammunition is over one and a half kilometers, the radius of the shock wave is 800 meters. The situation was complicated by the fact that the formidable artifact was located in the thick of the forest — where heavy equipment would not pass. The option of sawing off Red Data Book pines for easier access was excluded. Therefore, the pyrotechnicians of the Ministry of Emergency Situations literally performed a jeweler’s work, carefully and smoothly transporting the object between the barrels. Taking into account all security measures, the half-ton ammunition was loaded onto a special vehicle, which, as part of a convoy, accompanied by the traffic police, a fire brigade and an ambulance, headed to the training ground. There, the bomb was destroyed by a controlled detonation— said the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in Sevastopol.

From the moment the explosive object was discovered and until it was eliminated, the Main Directorate of the Russian Emergencies Ministry for the city of Sevastopol functioned in an emergency mode. Ensuring the safety of the population and infrastructure was carried out by representatives of the relevant departments of the Government of Sevastopol, as well as emergency departments and organizations. Communications, located dangerously close to the site, were disabled. Through a mobile broadcasting and warning complex, residents of the nearest streets were informed of the need to leave the dangerous territory for the period of the events. Also, interaction with citizens was carried out by door-to-door bypass.
