In the Sevastopol Theater named after. Lunacharsky will host a lecture-concert “World Opera of the 20th Century”

On November 6, a lecture-concert “World Opera of the 20th Century” will take place on the stage of the Sevastopol Academic Russian Drama Theater named after A.V. Lunacharsky. The event will be the tenth and final in the series of lectures “Opera Evenings in Sevastopol”.

The lecture-concert will be dedicated to the music of the mid and second half of the twentieth century. The concert will feature works by outstanding authors of this time: Russian classics Dmitry Shostakovich, Igor Stravinsky and Sergei Prokofiev, as well as one of the main British composers, Benjamin Britten. Listeners will be able to get acquainted with the masterpieces of both Soviet opera and operetta, for example, by Isaac Dunaevsky and with brilliant examples of musicals: “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein and “The Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

During this period, opera became a creative laboratory for many composers, and in parallel with it, other theatrical genres began to develop — operetta and musical. The works of the tenth opera evening will feature completely different subjects — from tragic stories of the Second World War to Hollywood melodramas, said the director of the lecture-concert, teacher at the department of opera training at the Moscow State Conservatory. The musical director of the series of opera evenings is the conductor of the Bolshoi Theater, Honored Artist of Russia Anton Grishanin. The concert will be attended by laureates of international competitions, soloists Alexandra Nanoshkina, Anna Semenyuk, Igor Janulaitis, Anton Zaraev.
