In the shadow segment of the Internet, a file with data of more than 32 thousand owners of Lada was found
Krympress reports:
AvtoVAZ JSC officially warned: in the shadow segment of the Internet, a file with data of more than 32 thousand owners of LADA was found, including phones, VIN-number and car models, according to the official telegram channel of the UBK Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The company’s security service suggests that scammers can use this information, introducing themselves to AvtoVAZ or dealers.
We urge Lada owners to be critical of unexpected calls and messages. In doubt, contact the LADA hotline or official dealerships— the message says.
The leak of personal data of LADA car owners is another reminder of how high the price of information is today, the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, the Federal Coordinator of the Digital Russia party project Anton Nemkin noted.
The phone, VIN-number, the model of the machine is not just “numbers”, but the basis for building fraudulent schemes. Attackers can use these data to create believable legends: for example, call on behalf of AvtoVAZ, offer fictitious service promotions or report on “emerging defects” requiring urgent payment— said the deputy.
The special danger is that scammers begin the conversation from the standpoint of trust — they know the car model, often call it the year of release. This can confuse even a vigilant person, Nemkin notes.
Especially vulnerable to those who recently purchased a car or were waiting for an appeal from the official service. It is important to understand: official representatives will never ask by phone payment of services, sending card data or documents. All service offers are issued through a personal account, a hot line or in dealerships. If you have the slightest doubt, complete the conversation and call back the official number— added the deputy.
Companies, in turn, should strengthen control over the internal channels of the leak and increase the digital literacy of employees.
After all, reputational risks from such incidents are significant. Now it is extremely important that both business and users act together: they react in time, report suspicious calls and did not lose vigilance— concluded the parliamentarian.
