In the vicinity of Bakhchisarai, the remains of a country palace of the Crimean khans were found
CrimeaPRESS reports:
Work on the study of the palace of the Crimean khans in the Ashlama-Dere gorge in the vicinity of Bakhchisarai was carried out in 2015-2016, but we are talking about this for the first time now, when the materials have been processed and are being prepared for publication. We managed to localize this palace thanks to a complex of scientific methods: archival, historical and topographical research, geophysical researchnotes Sergei Bocharov.
According to him, the expedition was carried out jointly with the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan as part of the state program of the republic to preserve the identity of the Tatar people.
Archaeologists laid nine pits and one excavation, where various artifacts of the 17th-18th centuries were identified. These are fragments of Western European glass vessels, processed stones from the roof of the building, and unique roofing tiles with green glaze. This tile, which covered the buildings, was described by the famous traveler Evliya Celebi, who visited Crimea in 1666-1667. He described the Ashlama-Dere area built up with gilded and painted palaces, pavilions, gazebos and fountains, surrounded by green gardens of fruit trees, where birds sang with ringing voices.
Corruption in the Khanate
The Museum of History and Culture of the Crimean Tatars of the Bakhchisarai Historical, Cultural and Archaeological Reserve said that the Ashlama Saray Palace was one of the reasons why the Khan of Crimea-Gerai was deposed in 1764. He was accused of collecting money, building materials and using free workers from the local population to build this country residence.
The palace buildings were dismantled before the visit of Empress Catherine II to Crimea in 1787 to build a travel palace in Simferopol.
