In Yalta — VIII International Film Festival «Eurasian Bridge»

The Eurasian Bridge International Film Festival opened on October 7 in Yalta for the eighth time. The opening ceremony took place at the Saturn IMAX cinema. Over five festival days, viewers will be able to see 16 films from 14 countries included in the Documentary and Fiction Competition, as well as retrospectives dedicated to VGIK and film adaptations of the works of A. S. Pushkin. In addition, special screenings of this year’s iconic films will take place as part of the screening. The festival will last until October 11. Admission to all shows is free.

The ideological inspirer of the festival, director Nikita Mikhalkov, made a video message to the guests and participants of the show at the opening.

It is with pleasure that I congratulate both the guests and participants on the VIII Eurasian Bridge Festival. In this difficult time, I am very proud and very glad that, despite any difficulties, the festival continues to live, guests come here and show their paintings. The festival will feature films from different countries and will host retrospectives.,” noted Nikita Mikhalkov.

Guests and participants of the festival were greeted from the stage by her deputy Andrei Tereshchenko on behalf of the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Crimea Tatyana Manezhina.

Deputy Chairman of the Yalta City Council of the Republic of Crimea, Evgeniy Khrychev, also addressed the audience with a welcoming speech.

The chairman of the jury of the Game Competition, Russian screenwriter and producer Yuri Obukhov told the audience that a very intense Competition program awaits them, and wished good luck to its participants: “Be patient, and on October 11 you will find out who will be the best. I wish you success!”

Soloists of the Crimean State Philharmonic performed for the guests. The host of the concert was Irina Tsubrovich.

There are 8 films in the feature film competition of the festival — “In the Belly of the Tiger” (director Jatla Siddartha, India, USA, China, Taiwan), “Between the Cracks” (director Guo Dalu, China), “The Story of the Shepherds” (director Jaime Puertas Castillo, Spain ), “The Forest King” (director Goran Radovanovic, Serbia, Bulgaria), “Four Quarters” (director Evgenia Tirdatova, Russia), “Gazelles” (director Khushang Golmakani, Iran), “Evgeniy Telegin” (director Viktor Tikhomirov, Russia) and “Glass Curtain” (directed by Fikret Reyhan, Turkey).

The documentary section also presents 8 films: “Eugene Khaldei. I Personally Testify» (director Igor Kalyadin, Russia), «The Rook» (director Sam Kalantari, Iran), «Smile!» (director Marianna Kireeva, Russia), “Shukhrat Abbasov. Close-up» (directors Ulugbek Yuldashaev, Eljon Abbasov, Uzbekistan), «Territory» (director Alex Galan, Spain, Kyrgyzstan), «City of the Dead» (director Balaka Ghosh, India), «Bangarang» (director Giulio Mastromauro, Italy) and “Noekhon Island” (director Elena Demidova, Russia).

Films from the competition programs will be assessed by a professional jury, which includes filmmakers from different countries.

The jury of the gaming competition includes the famous Greek director, actor and translator George Kimulis, Turkish producer Evren Yildirim, and the chairman of the jury will be Russian screenwriter and producer Yuri Obukhov.

The documentary film competition will be judged by director and cameraman Andrei Chertov — chairman of the jury (Bulgaria), director, producer and writer Navzad Shekhani (Germany) and Russian documentary director Tatyana Soboleva.

The festival will also include special screenings of the films “9 Seconds” by Oleg Shtrom (Russia), “To the Bathhouse!” Danila Ivanova (Russia), “Between a Dog and a Wolf”, directed by Murat Duzgunoglu (Turkey), “Once Upon a Time in Paris”, directed by Andrey Chertov (Bulgaria) and “The Return of Vertov” by Nikolai Izvolov (Russia).

In addition, viewers can expect retrospectives: “VGIK-105: The Birth of Talents,” which includes films by famous students of the country’s main film school, and “I erected a monument to myself, not made by hands…” — dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the great Russian poet and writer Alexander Pushkin and film adaptations of his works .

The opening film of the festival was a Russian film from the feature film competition “Evgeniy Telegin” by Viktor Tikhomirov. This is a film adaptation of the book “Evgeny Telegin and Others”, written in the footsteps of Pushkin’s “Eugene Onegin”, the events of which take place among the youth of the 80-90s of the 20th century, fascinated by musical rock events.

The Eurasian Bridge festival has been taking place since 2016. In 2014, at the presentation of the film “Sunstroke,” Nikita Mikhalkov proposed establishing an annual film festival, which would be held in Crimea to revive and popularize Crimean cinema in the Eurasian space and would give impetus to strengthening international cultural ties.

The festival is held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Republic of Crimea, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Crimea.
