In Yevpatoria, a suspect in car theft was detained “hot on the heels”

The duty station of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the city of Yevpatoria received a message from a 69-year-old local resident who reported the theft of his Renault Koleos car parked in the courtyard of his house.
As a result of operational search activities, a stolen car was discovered on one of the central streets of the city. The suspect was quickly detained by police officers near the vehicle in a state of severe alcohol intoxication.
The detainee was a 41-year-old resident of the Saki district who had been previously convicted several times. He explained to the police that, while intoxicated, he entered the interior of a parked car through an unlocked door, started the vehicle with a button and drove away, after which, having lost control, he collided with a tree.— said the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Crimea.
The investigator of the Department of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Evpatoria opened a criminal case against the suspect on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 166 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Wrongful taking of a car or other vehicle without the purpose of theft” (hijacking). The defendant faces a maximum penalty of imprisonment freedom for up to 5 years.
